Carlos Alcaraz produced a high-class display to see off American Ben Shelton 6-4, 6-4 and draw Team Europe level with Team World on the second day of the Laver Cup in Berlin. The 21-year-old Spaniard, already a French Open and Wimbledon champion this year, showed his mental strength to save all five break points against him.
Alcaraz broke Shelton’s powerful left-handed serve once in each set, showing his poise under pressure as Team Europe prevailed. “I’m really happy to be part of Team Europe for the first time,” Alcaraz said. “I played a solid match against a really tough opponent.
Earlier, Frances Tiafoe of Team World came from behind to beat Daniil Medvedev, making it 4-4 overall heading into Saturday night’s session at the Uber Arena.
Next up, German Alexander Zverev faces off against American Taylor Fritz, before a doubles match rounds out the day’s action.
The teams are now even, and the competition is getting heavy as both sides forge ahead in their competitive quest to win the coveted Laver Cup title.
