Bobrisky, Femi Adebayo and Dayo Amusa have been on the trend table since this week. Chances are, you know why. If for some reason you don’t, no problem, I’ll be explaining everything in a jiffy.
How the drama began:
Eniola Ajao had set the date for the premiere of her movie: “Beast of Two Worlds: Ajakaju” on Sunday, March 24 and had invited the créme de la créme of the Nigerian entertainment scene to the event. The theme for the premiere was given and it was: ‘Royal Beast.’
Sticking true to the celebrant’s requirement, Nigerian celebrities had turned up to the movie premiere, in their best portrayal of what the dress code meant to them.
There had been a cash reward for the Best Dressed Female at the premiere but as it turned out, the award was presented to controversial public figure, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, a Nigerian male crossdresser turned Transgender (allegedly) by Femi Adebayo.
This had obviously not gone down well with the biological womenfolk at the movie premiere who thought that they had just been hoodwinked.
Dayo Amusa, a predominant Yoruba actress had been at the forefront of the ‘coalition of affronted women’ who had challenged Bobrisky emerging the winner of the Best Female Dressed award.
Amusa had taken up the battle with Femi Adebayo, —the presenter of the said award— and in a terse summary of the entire drama, the whole controversy turned out to be a hoax, meant to generate publicity for Ajao’s new movie.
The Worst Dressed:
Now, to get down to the reason you clicked on this article. The dress code stipulated by Ajao was ‘Royal Beast’ and although I know that fashion is subjective, you can’t help but agree that even though these celebrities were going for a theme, they failed to deliver.
With no further ado, here is a list of the worst dressed celebrity to the ‘Beast of Two World’s: Ajakaju’ premiere:
Wumi Toriola:

Her head gear and dress would have been a perfect choice for an outfit in traditional village scene in a movie shoot. However, seeing as she wore this to a movie premiere with a stipulated dress code, this is a No from me. Also, what’s up with the velvet stole atop her neck?!?!
Bose Alao:

This look had potential not gonna lie, but once again, the dress code was misinterpreted (Nigerian stylists should do better smh). The whole look just gives off stylish masquerade vibes but the footwear was a big no. (Seriously, who wears modern pointed-toe heels with a masquerade costume?) All is not lost however, as Alao gets some points for her cute makeup.
Dayo Amusa:

I won’t lie, I won’t steal, this look is a hard pass for me. I can see so many themes from where this outfit was inspired from (cue: Maleficent costume, the Joker makeup) and that’s majorly the reason this look flopped very badly. On the issue of sticking to the theme, there is nothing royal about this look. At best it gives ‘startled unknown animal from the forest’. No shades to Ms. Amusa.
Papaya Ex:

Sheybi you’re seeing what I’m seeing. I don’t have a lot to say about your favourite influencer, Papaya’s look, but I know that Medusa and her snakes are patiently waiting in hell for her stylist. Props to Papaya Ex for standing strong for the red carpet, despite the heavy load she was given to carry on her head.
Eniola Ajao:

Well, well, well. If it isn’t the celebrant of the movie herself finding her way into this list. Very disappointing.
First of all, there’s nothing beastly about this look, not to talk more of royalty. Don’t even get me started on the monstrous and questionable headgear. I understand that some of the inspiration from the look was drawn from a peacock (spot the peacock-like inspo at the tail of the dress), but what I don’t understand is the antelope drawings on several spots on the dress and the bizarre makeup on her face. Again, no beastly vibes were felt.
Tierny Olalere:

I don’t know what to make of this entire get-up. If all the women in this list brought out their ‘A-game’ to the red carpet, Olalere couldn’t be bothered to. I imagine this is the picture senior Nigerian tailors bring out to show their apprentices, to warn them to take their work seriously.
The whiskers on her face might be the only indication that this actress had given it her all at the red carpet.
Dayo Amusa’s makeup looks clownish
Compared to the other outfits….papaya’s outfit honestly wasn’t that bad
Eniola’s premiere is the worst I have seen so far, they couldn’t give us good clothes and it seems the actors were too proud to even dress properly well.
Oh take me back to the days of Tunde Kelani’s premiere for his movie Ayinla, see dresses????.
Eniola Ajao’s premiere didn’t give at all jare
