Kimi Antonelli won the Canadian Grand Prix as Mercedes team-mate George Russell, who had looked dominant throughout the race and led by half a second on Lap 28, lost control of his W15 power-unit when it appeared to cut out at the fastest point of the Montreal circuit.
This incident saw a ferocious duel between Russell and Antonelli end in tears for George. The two Mercedes had swapped the lead three times in a thrilling wheel-to-wheel opening phase; Russell initially on top, but after several front wheel lock-ups and desperate defensive moves, he came under immense pressure from the man who would ultimately take his third consecutive victory (and fourth on the bounce from this year) after a move from the younger Mercedes driver was deemed too harsh on lap five.
George managed to keep his cool, albeit briefly having the upper hand, to hold on before the car faltered on lap 30.

Lewis Hamilton continued a storming drive on the Bridgestones to overcome the Red Bull of Max Verstappen, finishing 2nd and leaving the three-time champion third.
The McLaren team will rue an unfortunate afternoon in Montreal after a strategic error regarding tire selection at the end of the opening stint seemed to set their race alight, with problems for other mid-fielders along with penalties allowing a much smaller point return than that of Mercedes.
