Brazilian winger Antony wants to extend his loan deal at Real Betis for a further year after impressing since his January switch from Manchester United.
The 24-year-old is coming into his own in La Liga, scoring two and setting up two more in just five league appearances as well as scoring in the Europa Conference League. Since the start of February, when he made his La Liga debut, only Lamine Yamal (13) and his Betis team-mate Isco (19) have fashioned more chances than Antony (11).
Betis chief executive Samon Alarcon confirmed Antony wanted to extend his stay as he told Canal Sur he had the winger was in good spirits in Spain.
“Antony told me the other day that he wanted to stay another year. He’s extremely comfortable here and he was surprised how fast we took him into the fold,” Alarcon said.
Antony had a tough time at Manchester United after his £82 million transfer from Ajax in 2022, failing to live up to his expensive fee. He posted only 12 goals and five assists over 96 appearances before being shipped out on loan to Betis. Now, with his career entering a second wind, a prolonged stay in Spain is on the cards.
