When in 2019 at the presidential rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta, the current Minister for Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, uttered a word to describe the then Governor of Ogun State and now serving Senator, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and his loyalists. He tagged them as “Alagabagebe”; a Yoruba word which can be loosely translated as hypocrites.
Aregbesola berated Amosun for his over ambition by not succumbing to the whims of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is a political godfather to him (Aregbesola) in the choice of successor to Amosun. Tinubu political dynasty as spearheaded by Aregbesola and Co., has supported Dapo Abiodun who is eventual winner of the guber election against the anointed candidate of Amosun.
All manners of tantrums was thrown at Amosun by Aregbesola and his co-travelers for wishing to usurp Tinubu as the godfather of southwest politics, which Amosun did by daring to install a successor to a post he was about to relinquish. The subtle yet funny aspect people did not notice at the time was that at no time of the brouhaha did either Tinubu or Amosun use any offensive languages against each other, unlike Aregbesola who put the matter on top his head. The rest as they said is history.
While in 2019, Aregbesola forgot that man’s most useful yet dangerous tool is ambition. Fast forward to 2022 in the buildup to APC guber primary, Aregbesola exhibited all that he berated Amosun for in 2019. The exhibition is the commonality of their ambitions to become godfather in their respective states. Aregbesola just like Amosun as Governor, handpicked candidates for most elective positions just to lay foundation for the desires to become a godfather, no matter how it is against the tenets of free and fair party primaries.
Now that Aregbesola ambitions clashes with his master interests, he goes around giving sermons to the locals in Osun about how he is best thing after sliced bread to fight Tinubu godfatherism tendencies. Proclaiming he is on God-inspired mission to rescue people of Osun State from the government he helped his estranged godfather install.
As the title above suggests, you reap what you sow. If someone by chance treats people badly, he or she shall definitely harvest bad in hundred folds. This is now the fate of Aregbesola.
