Former vice president and presidential candidate for the people’s democratic party, Atiku Abubakar, has selected the governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate for the 2023 elections.
He made this decision public at the unveiling event in the national secretariat of the party and also in a tweet from his official Twitter page.
“I look forward to traveling our great country together, engaging with all Nigerians, and building a shared future of peace, unity, and prosperity for all. As One We Can Get It Done. #OneNigeria. -AA”
There had been rumors that Nyesom Wike the governor of rivers state would be chosen as the running mate but Wike who came second behind Atiku with 237 votes in the primary election was not selected. Okowa is expected to get screened by the committee in charge of the selection.
Atiku said he chose him because he believed he would not only be coming with the excitement but would also be bringing focus, discipline, and stability to our government, come 2023.
” I am pleased, therefore, to announce here my choice of Running Mate who will help to lead us to victory next year not only in the Presidential election but also in the governorship and legislative elections. And he will be by my side as I work hard every day to provide our people with security, revive our economy, improve education and unite our country.”
