Fabrizio Romano reported that Barcelona have agreed with Manchester United to sign Marcus Rashford on an initial loan deal, with an option to make the transfer permanent next year.
The transfer saga of Rashford, who was on a six-month loan at Aston Villa before returning, concentrated around his decision to join the Catalan club after several teams showed their interest in him. The English player is said to have accepted a substantial pay cut from his weekly salary of £325,000 to be compatible with Barcelona’s financial structure.
The Athletic was the first to report that talks were going well, and Fabrizio Romano later revealed that a deal has now been sealed. While United had planned to find a buyer for Rashford at around £40 million, they opt for the loan deal after Barcelona told them they couldn’t pay that much.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has sanctioned the transaction after discussing directly with Rashford, who will be a great reinforcement of the left wing. Besides the fact that Los Blancos had miserably failed to convince Nico Williams and were too expensive for a deal with Liverpool for Lou Díaz, they have now turned to rashford.
Before Rashford will be officially introduced as Barcelona’s new player, some minor details are being settled.
