Bronny James, the eldest son of NBA all-time leading scorer and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, has declared for the 2024 NBA Draft. The announcement was made on Instagram on Friday, following his freshman season with the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans.
Reflecting on his year, Bronny stated, “I’ve had a year with some ups and downs but all added to growth for me as a man, student, and athlete.” He expressed gratitude towards USC for an amazing freshman year and thanked his family, friends, doctors, athletic trainers, and fans for their support.
The 19-year-old’s journey has not been without challenges. In July last year, he suffered a cardiac arrest during basketball practice at USC. However, he made a remarkable recovery and was cleared by his doctors to play basketball again in late November 2023. He scored his first points for USC in December.
The declaration has reignited speculation about LeBron and Bronny playing together in the NBA. In 2022, LeBron told the Athletic, “My last year will be played with my son. Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year.”
LeBron, who is eligible for free agency at the end of the current season, recently acknowledged that he doesn’t have much time left in his NBA career. This admission, coupled with Bronny’s declaration, has fans eagerly anticipating the possibility of a historic father-son duo on the NBA court.
