In Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari approved a work schedule for the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).

At the Council’s first meeting, which he presided over together with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Director-General of the NCCC Dr. Salisu Dahiru, and other members, the President gave his assent.

To ensure the Council’s successful launch, the President also authorized the deployment of personnel from significant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

President Buhari accepted the proposed Institutional Arrangement (Organogram) for the Council in its current form in response to many requests made by the Director-General of the Council to ensure a successful launch and operationalization of the Council.

Additionally, he gave his approval for the office space to be operationalized so that the Council may operate in a comfortable setting and for the creation of the Open Market Carbon Trading Framework and Infrastructure (Phase I) in association with M/S Rosehill Group Limited.

The Energy Transition Plan and Office were ordered to be absorbed into the NCCC by the meeting’s president to maintain the initiative’s continuity and sustainability in compliance with the Climate Change Act of 2021.

Following the Climate Change Act 2021, the President also gave his approval for the Council to serve as the designated national authority for the UNFCCC and for the DG of, the NCCC to serve as the national focal point for the UNFCCC.
