President Muhammadu Buhari during his nationwide broadcast to Nigerians disclosed that the ban on Twitter will be lifted conditionally for businesses and digital platforms.
According to the president, he said social media is a useful tool that has helped millions of Nigerians to connect with loved ones, build relationship, promote businesses, socialise, get access to news and other information.
The president, however, said the platform has also become a tool which some have used to organize and coordinate criminal activities, propagate fake news and even promote religious and ethnic sentiments.
He made it known that the ban was necessary to put some measures in place to address the challenges, and Twitter then reached out to the Nigerian government to help solve those challenges.
Following the extensive engagements, the issues are being addressed and he has ordered that the suspension be lifted but only on conditions that allows citizens continue the use of the platform for business and positive engagements.
Mr President, however, assured that he’s committed to ensuring that digital companies use their strength to enhance the lives of the citizenry, respect the sovereignty of Nigeria and cultural values.
