Burna Boy Catalogue Legal Battle Suffers Setback Over CEO’s Absence

Nigerian music continues to dominate the African scene as Burna Boy, Davido, Shallipopi, Rema, and Ayra Starr lead the pack at the 2025 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).

The awards, which celebrate the best of African music across the continent, have seen Davido and Burna Boy each secure five nominations. Burna Boy’s chart-topping album No Sign of Weakness and Davido’s latest release 5ive are both in the running for Album of the Year. Additionally, the duo earned nods for Song of the Year and Best Collaboration for their popular singles.

South African DJ Maphorisa matched the Nigerian stars with five nominations, including Album of the Year and Best African DJ. Meanwhile, Moroccan rapper El Grande Toto also received five nominations for his tracks Salgoat and Diplomatico.

Emerging Nigerian street-pop sensation Shallipopi received four nominations, including Song of the Year and Artiste of the Year, while Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz maintained his stronghold in East Africa with four nods. South African singer Tyla also earned four nominations, highlighting her rising influence in the region.

Other notable mentions include Tanzanian musician Juma Jux, who secured three nominations, including Song of the Year for Ololufe Mi, alongside Nigerian stars Rema and Ayra Starr, each receiving three nominations.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Nigeria will host the 2025 AFRIMA Awards, further cementing the country’s status as a powerhouse in African music.

With nominations spanning multiple genres and regions, this year’s AFRIMA promises to be a celebration of the continent’s vibrant music scene, with Nigerian artists once again taking center stage.
