Several parts of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, are starting to experience scarcity of the Naira as Christmas day approaches.
Not less than seven commercial banks in the AYA area of Abuja failed to dole out cash on Thursday.
This has reportedly been going on for about a week leading to Point of Sales, POS, operators lining up in their numbers in front of the affected bank ATMs to make quick business.
A POS operator, Samuel, had bemoaned the fact that ATMs have not been dispensing Naira notes as envisaged.
He went on to reveal that cash was only available at certain hours of the day.
“There is Naira scarcity and it may probably be because we are approaching December, but its only CBN that can explain this new scarcity,” he said.
This is coming amid the Central Bank of Nigeria’s announcement that both the old and the redesigned Naira notes were still legal tender in Nigeria.
The Supreme Court had also in its judgment, granted the appeals of the federal government to suspend the December 31 extension deadline for the N200, N500, and N1,000 notes.
