Nigerian singer Ckay has made history as the first Nigerian artist to have a solo track surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify.
The milestone was achieved with his 2019 hit “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah),” which recently crossed the 1-billion-stream mark.
Ckay also becomes the first solo male African artist to reach this landmark on the streaming platform. Reacting to the achievement, he shared on X: “First solo Nigerian song to cross 1 billion streams. Grateful to God and the people involved in this historic success! Thank you for streaming.”

Earlier, Wizkid became the first African artist to enter Spotify’s 1 billion club in 2017 through his collaboration with Drake on “One Dance,” which holds the Guinness World Record as the first song to reach 1 billion streams on the platform.
Meanwhile, Rema became the first African lead artist to surpass 1 billion streams with the remix of his hit “Calm Down” featuring American singer Selena Gomez. South African singer Tyla holds the record as the first African female artist to join the 1 billion club with her viral track “Water.”
Ckay’s achievement further cements Nigeria’s growing influence in global music, showcasing the global reach of Afrobeats and African artists on streaming platforms.
