Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC chairman, has voiced worry about the continuing fuel shortage and warned that it may hamper the transportation of supplies during the general elections.
To mitigate the consequences, the Commission declared that it will meet with representatives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
When Yakubu met with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) leadership yesterday to finalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreed with the union in December, he brought up the problem.
INEC collaborates with NURTW and the Marine Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) to facilitate official and material transportation.
This occurred at the same time that the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) stated that INEC had a heavy responsibility to ensure that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines would function in all 176,846 polling places nationwide and to ensure effective electronic results transmission from the polling places.
