The bodies of Sarah Packwood, a Briton, and her Canadian husband Brett Clibbery were discovered on a washed-up life raft nearly six weeks after they began a sailing trip across the Atlantic Ocean. The couple set off from Nova Scotia in their eco-friendly yacht, Theros, and were last seen on July 12 when their life raft was found on Sable Island near Nova Scotia.
They were reported missing on June 18, having departed Nova Scotia a week earlier with plans to sail to the Azores, about 3,228 kilometers away. The journey was expected to take 21 days.
The circumstances surrounding their deaths are unclear, and an investigation is underway. One theory is that their yacht may have been struck by a passing cargo ship. The Canadian coastguard and military have not located any wreckage of the boat. The couple detailed their “Green Odyssey” trip on their YouTube channel, aiming to demonstrate sustainable travel using sails, solar panels, batteries, and an electric engine.
Their journey began with a chance meeting in London in 2015, and they married a year later on their yacht in Canada.
