Nigerian singer Davido has opened up about his past relationship with the convicted fraudster and socialite, Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi.

In a candid podcast interview, Davido acknowledged their friendship but made it clear that he was unaware of Hushpuppi’s criminal activities. Despite the scandal surrounding the former Instagram influencer, the singer of Awuke expressed his sympathy and hopes for Hushpuppi’s eventual release from U.S. prison.

“Hushpuppi is coming home soon. He lived his life, and honestly, it’s not worth being locked up, but I’m not making excuses for anyone involved in fraud. Some people enjoy living large for a short time,” Davido shared during the interview.

He also commented on Nigeria’s challenging economic environment, suggesting that it plays a role in the increasing involvement in illegal activities.

“In Nigeria, the hardship is so intense that people sometimes think, ‘Let me just enjoy for a couple of years and then I’m good.’ That’s the mindset for some,” Davido explained.

Despite Hushpuppi’s controversial past, Davido conveyed well wishes, saying, “He was my friend. I didn’t know much about his dealings, but I hope everything works out for him. He lived a good life.”
