A tragic incident occurred at the Grona Lund amusement park in Stockholm, Sweden, on Sunday, resulting in the loss of one life and injuries to seven individuals, including children, according to park officials and the police. Witnesses reported that the Jetline roller coaster experienced a partial derailment during a ride, leading to people being thrown to the ground.
Emergency services, including ambulances, fire trucks, and a helicopter, swiftly arrived at the scene, while the police initiated an investigation. Although the police confirmed that both children and adults were among the injured, they refrained from providing further details regarding the severity of the injuries. Grona Lund, which has been operational for 140 years, announced the immediate closure of the park until further notice. Attempts to reach a spokesperson for comment were unsuccessful.
Jenny Lagerstedt, a journalist who was present at the park with her family, recounted hearing a metallic sound and observing the track structure shaking at the time of the accident.
The Jetline roller coaster, equipped with steel tracks, attains speeds of up to 90 km/h (56 mph) and reaches a height of 30 meters (98 feet), attracting over a million visitors annually, as stated on the amusement park’s website. Parisa Liljestrand, Sweden’s Culture Minister, expressed her shock and disbelief upon learning about the incident.
