Media personality Toke Makinwa has advised people to remain firm in their relationship standards, stressing that there are countless potential partners across the world.
On a recent episode of her podcast, Makinwa encouraged individuals to go after partners who match their preferences rather than give in to societal criticism.
“There’s no need to attack someone for wanting more,” she said. “If their standard doesn’t suit you, keep it moving. There are billions of people in the world.”
She criticised the habit of mocking others for their relationship choices—especially those who expect financial support—stating that it’s better to move on peacefully than insult what doesn’t match your expectations.
“Don’t need to lower your standards,” she said. “Honestly, listen, there are over a billion people in this world, right? You can go and find somebody who has what you’re looking for. Stop letting society dictate.”
She continued, “If you say, oh, this girl is a money-hungry b!tch. All she wants is a man to pay her bills. If you can’t pay her bills, leave. There’s another guy who does what he’s looking for.”
Toke also touched on how social media arguments over people’s choices often reflect deeper insecurities.
“If somebody is not what you’re looking for, cease the urge to start trying to pinpoint what is wrong with them, because it’s actually a reflection of you and not them,” she said.
“That’s what they want out of their lives. After all, there are people who wake up in the morning and believe that, you know what, I’m the best thing since sliced bread. I’m Queen Diana. And if they believe it and they think it and they’re walking, who are you to come and tell them that they are not?”
