Dutch law enforcement announced on Sunday that they had detained more than 500 climate activists during a second consecutive day of protests targeting government subsidies for the fossil fuel sector.
Despite warnings from authorities not to obstruct the vital A12 highway leading to The Hague, hundreds of demonstrators marched on it around midday.
On Saturday, an estimated 10,000 activists, with approximately 2,400 arrests, had already blocked the same highway for several hours.
Extinction Rebellion, the organizers behind these protests, has declared their intention to continue blocking the highway daily until the Dutch government ceases using public funds to support the oil and gas industry.
