Simon Ekpa has taken legal action against his former ally, Ngozi Orabueze, at the United States District Court in Washington D.C., alleging that she hijacked the database and assets of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE). The self-styled Biafran Prime Minister is seeking punitive damages and full compensation for what he describes as a hostile takeover of the movement he leads.

Ekpa is asking the court to compel Orabueze to pay financial penalties, attorney fees, and legal costs. His legal team, led by U.S.-based lawyer Arman Dabiri, insists Orabueze and her associates must be held accountable for attempting to split the group and create a rival faction under BRGIE’s name.

Biafra Group Crisis Deepens as Ekpa Takes Legal Action

According to court filings, the dispute began in December 2024 and involves multiple defendants including Ada Ezeh, Diana Emeh Solomon Nkwocha, Ugbonna Christian Olejemah, Uchenna Objijiaku, and Ijeoma Eze. The accusations range from fraud and illegal possession of IPOB data to operating a breakaway faction aimed at weakening Ekpa’s leadership.

Dabiri, representing both BRGIE and Ekpa, stated that “this is about protecting an organisation from internal betrayal and unlawful seizure.” The lawsuit marks another episode in the internal rift that has plagued Biafra’s exiled leadership and raised questions about legitimacy, loyalty, and control.

The legal drama unfolds while Ekpa remains in pre-trial detention in Finland on charges of “public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.” His arrest by Finnish authorities has not stopped him from claiming authority over Biafra’s government in exile, nor has it halted his public statements on Biafran Independence.

Meanwhile, the lawsuit against Orabueze may further expose power struggles and ideological divisions within IPOB’s diaspora leadership. Accusations of hijacking data and forming a parallel government raise concerns about how personal interests are taking centre stage in a cause once driven by shared struggle.

Ekpa Sues Orabueze Over Biafra Group Hijack in U.S. Court

As Ekpa sues Orabueze over Biafra group hijack in U.S. court, the situation once again highlights the deepening cracks within the Biafran movement. With international legal battles, internal factions, and the leader himself facing terror-related charges abroad, questions loom over the credibility, unity, and future of the BRGIE. Whether the court grants Ekpa’s demands or not, the fallout of this dispute is bound to reshape the Biafran struggle on the global stage.
