The Department of Development Control, FCT Administration, FCTA, has issued a 24-hour demolition notice to the workers at the illegal markets and shanties along Karmo–Dei-Dei Road corridor.
A news report by NAN revealed that over 500 illegal structures and shanties, located along the road corridor were targeted for demolition.
The Sector Monitor and Assistant Director in the department, Mr Garba Jibril, who spearheaded the exercise in Abuja on Monday, had however, said that the affected owners had been served with several notices earlier.
Jibril also added that the Director of Development Control, Mr Mukhtar Galadima, hosted a sensitisation meeting with critical stakeholders as regards to the matter.
In an explainer, Jibril said that demolishing the structures was obligatory as they posed a nuisance on the road in addition to causing heavy traffic, especially on their market days.
The team lead additionally revealed that the FCTA had awarded a contract for the construction of Life Camp–Dei-Dei Road but the traders’ continuous stay on the road corridor was barring the contractors from moving to the site.
Jibril concluded his statement by saying that the 24-hour notice was not to be played with and those who refuse to comply will only have themselves to blame.
