The Federal Government has officially declared June 12 as a public holiday in commemoration of the 2023 Democracy Day Celebration.
Dr Oluwatoyin Akinlade, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, released this information on behalf of the government in a statement on Thursday.
In her message, she extended congratulations to Nigerians for their remarkable journey in democracy, acknowledging the challenges and triumphs experienced along the way. The government and the Nigerian people have demonstrated unwavering commitment to this path.
She encouraged Nigerians to reflect on the significant progress the country has achieved in its pursuit of democracy, celebrating the collective efforts and advancements, and looking ahead to a brighter future. Emphasizing the steadfastness of the state, its institutions, and above all, the Nigerian people in upholding democratic principles, she invited Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to appreciate the strides made, rejoice in the milestones attained, and anticipate an improved democracy for the nation.
The statement concluded by extending warm wishes for a joyous Democracy Day celebration to all Nigerians
She said, “But the ship of State, its institutions and most importantly, the Nigerian people have remained steadfast on the tenets of democratic governance.”
“On this memorable occasion therefore, Nigerians and friends of Nigeria are invited to appreciate the progress that has been made, celebrate the milestones covered and look forward to a better future for the country’s democracy.
“The Permanent Secretary wishes all Nigerians a Happy Democracy Day celebration, ” the statement added.
