Iconic Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti has once again etched his name in history books after being selected for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, becoming the first African to achieve the feat.
Fela is set to be honoured in the Early Influence category, alongside renowned figures such as Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Gram Parsons, and Celia Cruz.
The announcement was made during a broadcast of American Idol in the United States, where the full list of inductees was unveiled.

Also making the list is Nigerian-born British singer Sade Adu, who will be celebrated in the Performance category.
Meanwhile, several globally recognised artistes including Shakira, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, New Edition, and Pink were not included in this year’s final selections despite earlier nominations.
The selection process involved over 1,200 voters made up of musicians, historians, and industry professionals.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for November 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, where Fela’s lasting impact on global music culture will be celebrated.
This latest recognition comes shortly after Fela was posthumously honoured with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, further solidifying his influence as one of Africa’s most celebrated musical figures.
