The Federal Government has officially upgraded the Muhammadu Buhari Airport in Maiduguri, Borno State, to an international airport. Festus Keyamo, the Minister in charge of Aviation and Aerospace Development, said that international flights will start on January 1, 2025.
Keyamo shared this news during a visit by the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Umara Babagana Zulum, and some important Senators from Borno State. The goal of this change is to improve the air travel system in the North-East, making it easier to travel and creating more economic opportunities.
“Having an international airport in Maiduguri is important because it will allow us to receive international flights from the Middle East,” Keyamo explained. “Maiduguri has the people, size, and facilities needed to handle this new status.”
Governor Zulum is happy with the upgrade and thanked President Tinubu and the Aviation Ministry for their work. The governors from the North-East have promised to support this change
