On Wednesday, the Ekiti State Police Command verified the death of Professor Femi Olaofe, the abducted former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, at the kidnappers’ den.

Adeniran Akinwale, the State Commissioner of Police, confirmed the discovery of the professor’s body in a shallow grave.

The news of the professor’s death, who was kidnapped around three weeks ago at his home in Ado-Ekiti, spread throughout town early Wednesday morning.

What they’re saying

According to the Commissioner,

“Yes, the professor has been found dead, and we are doing everything we can to exhume the body for burial.”

“However, we have detained so many people, and you know the facts surrounding the incident, and we suspected insiders, with the professor’s security man being the one who plotted it.

“They (the abductors) took the man with him so that we would not suspect. We arrested a few people while rescuing him.I can’t say anything about the security guard, but we’ll update the public when it’s suitable.”

Bottom Line

The kidnapping and subsequent death of a prominent academic figure shows the persistent security challenges facing Nigeria.

Kidnapping for ransom has become a widespread problem, affecting not only ordinary citizens but also high-profile individuals.

This incident reflects the need for good measures to enhance security and protect citizens from criminal activities.
