The French government will hold a ministerial meeting in mid-April to aid Sudan and the neighbouring countries to cope with the fallout of a civil war that has seen several people displaced and led to several warnings of famine, according to France’s foreign minister and diplomats.
The United Nations has urged countries to ignore the civilians caught up in the war in Sudan, and had made entreaties for $4.1 billion to meet up with the humanitarian needs and support those who have run to neighbouring countries.
About half of Sudan’s population (around 25 million people) are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection, while over 1.5 million people have sought refuge in the Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia and South Sudan, according to the United Nations.

French diplomatic sources reckon that the conference would bring together, ministers from nearby countries, regional actors, Western states, UN agencies and non-profit organisations working in the area.
Diplomats have said that although there were talks regarding the political situation, the main warring factions would jot be invited.
