Femi Gbajabiamila who is currently the Speaker of the House of Representatives has to taken to his official Twitter page said on Wednesday to apologize for posting a picture of himself attending a leadership course at Harvard University in the United States of America.

He said that he should have been more considerate of the plight of Nigerian students who are currently suffering from the closure of academic activities in public universities as a result of the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other unions by posting that picture.

The Speaker has drawn a lot of criticism for celebrating his “return to class” in the midst of the ASUU strike. The post was criticized as being inconsiderate by several activists and groups and other Nigerians. However, the speaker apologized on his verified Twitter account on Wednesday via @femigbaja. “I apologise for the post at this time, and I hope you will understand that it was not my intention to cause disaffection.” The Academic Staff Union of Universities has been on its longest strike under Gbajabiamila’s tenure as Speaker.
