Berlin has declared its commitment to provide additional military aid to Ukraine, amounting to 1.3 billion euros ($1.42 billion). The aid package, revealed by Defence Minister Boris Pistorius during his visit to Kyiv, includes four extra IRIS-T air defense units. Notably, Germany had previously committed to delivering eight IRIS-T systems, with three already received by Ukraine for defense against potential Russian missile threats.
Defence Minister Pistorius outlined the comprehensive support package, which encompasses 20,000 155mm artillery shells and anti-tank mines. During a joint press briefing with Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, Pistorius emphasized the significance of this aid, stating,
“I am sure this will help you in your fight against Russian aggression. This underlines that we stand with Ukraine sustainably and reliably.”
Adding to the arsenal, the aid includes 20,000 additional 155mm artillery shells, supplementing the 140,000 rounds that Germany has committed to delivering in the upcoming year, as highlighted by Minister Pistorius.
