The National Petroleum Authority of Ghana (NPAG) has revealed plans to bring in refined petroleum products from Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery. This move will help Ghana have a more secure energy supply and improve economic cooperation within the region.
Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the CEO of NPAG, shared this news at the 2024 OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week in Lagos. Ghana aims to decrease its dependence on expensive imports from Rotterdam by using the large-scale production of the Dangote Refinery.
This partnership will strengthen relationships within the region, improve energy security, and support economic stability. Ghana has also increased its export agreements with Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

Ms. Oluwatosin Aina, the Group Head of Energy at First Bank of Nigeria Ltd., highlighted the importance of having a single African currency to reduce fluctuations in foreign exchange rates.
