Gordon Moore, a Silicon Valley pioneer, and philanthropist died in Hawaii at the age of 94.

In the 1950s, Mr. Moore began working on semiconductors and co-founded the Intel Corporation.

He famously predicted that computer processing power would double every year – a prediction that was later revised to every two years – an insight known as Moore’s Law.

Its “rule” established the foundation of the computer processor business, influencing the PC revolution.

Two decades before the computer revolution began, Mr. Moore stated in a study that integrated circuits will lead “to such wonders as home computers – or at least terminals connected to a central computer – automatic controls for autos, and personal portable communications equipment”.

His efforts aided tremendous technical progress around the world, allowing for the introduction of personal computers as well as Apple, Facebook, and Google.

Mr. Moore joined the Fairchild Semiconductor laboratory after receiving his Ph.D., which produced commercially viable transistors and integrated circuits.

That company’s growth laid the framework for the development of the peninsula of land south of San Francisco into what is today known as Silicon Valley.

Alan Moore and Robert Noyce left Fairchild in 1968 to found Intel.
