Nigerian gospel sensation Sinach is being sued by music producer Michael Oluwole, popularly known as Maye, in a suit filed before a Federal High Court in Lagos over claims of copyright infringement of her hit song, 2016 “Way Maker”.
Maye, who claims to be a co-author/co-owner of the globally acclaimed song, is seeking damages for what he described as a violation of his intellectual property rights.
The suit, numbered FHC/L/CS/402/2024, was filed before the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Sinach, however, has denied the allegations, saying she is the sole creator of the track that catapulted her to international limelight. She cited her established global reputation even before “Way Maker” was released.
The trial opened last Wednesday, November 27, 2024, and had been adjourned to January 29 and 30, 2025.
