Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has denied having any form of relationship with former Big Brother Naija star, Nengi.
Rumours spread on Monday that reality star Nengi had welcomed a child with Governor Douye, who is said to have four wives.
Controversial blogger Gistlover shared a picture of Nengi on their page with the caption: “SHALL WE?? By the way, she welcomed a child with a governor … 5th wife in the making? Make I talk abi make I face front? All these girls be doing the most, owo ijoba na yansh dey chop am… this gist is super messy… all the hide and seek don end ooo .”
Dr Kola Oredipe, spokesperson for the Bayelsa Governor, dismissed the claims as “baseless fabrications” in a response on his Facebook page.
Oredipe said: “Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri. Regrettably, purveyors of fake news are not happy with the towering political profile of the governor.”
“This is a distraction, and some of us are very justified in the many reasons offered to regulate the use of various social media platforms,”
“Sadly, while we were inaugurating a brand new road in Yenagoa, social media e-rats were spreading falsehoods about the governor.”
On Monday, Nengi dismissed the rumours of her alleged affair with the governor after the news sparked an uproar online.
She stated that she is not pregnant for any governor and urged people to let her enjoy her life and pregnancy in peace.
She wrote, “As much as I believe social media lies aren’t worth my time, I’ve come to accept that we live in a world where people are quick to spread lies without limits so let me be clear, I’m not pregnant for any Governor.
“I’ve chosen to speak coz this isn’t just an attack on me, it involves people I hold in the highest regard, and I won’t allow a beautiful, personal part of my life be turned into something ugly.
“While I continue to mind my own business and enjoy my pregnancy in PEACE, I wish y’all Love and a happy Valentine’s weekend .”
