The U.S has agreed to a significant change in sports as men and women of the soccer (football) teams would be paid equally. This is the first time in history that women would be paid as high as men in any sport. The bar has just been raised in sports with the U.S creating a ripple that could affect sports generally. This is great news for women that have been agitating for equal rights in sports.
Parlow Cone Cindy, president of U.S Soccer said ” This is a game-changing moment in the US and this has the potential to change how international soccer and international sport do business with the equalization of prize money for men and women’s world cup. Hopefully, this would create change throughout the world”
The negotiation came after US women won the world cup twice in a roll and the prize money of $4m while the men were paid $9m for reaching the 2014 World cup round of top 16. This decision is also coming after the female team filed a court case on gender discrimination against the federation.
