Lewis Hamilton remains committed to his future in Ferrari despite the decision of Adrian Newey to join Aston Martin instead of the Italian team. The seven-time Formula One champion, due to take to the wheels for Ferrari in the coming season, spoke about the same ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Hamilton said he felt no disappointment.
The 65-year-old, widely credited as Formula One’s most successful designer, will become managing technical partner and shareholder at Aston Martin next March after a long spell with Red Bull. Ferrari also sought his signature.
On whether he regretted not landing the chance to work with Newey, Hamilton said, “Honestly no. Obviously, it would have been great working with Adrian, but I have won championships without him. “
Hamilton stressed that the call Newey did not make anything to change his aspirations: “It doesn’t change anything for me or my focus with the next move.”
Newey’s cars have won 25 drivers’ and constructors’ titles between Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, with his 2023 Red Bull car winning 21 out of 22 races.
Max Verstappen, the current Red Bull champion, hailed Newey and further added: “I would’ve loved him to stay, but I’m happy he’s seeking new challenges.”
Verstappen dismissed any immediate interest in following Newey to Aston Martin.
