It seems the Nigerian Government is still battling with making necessary accommodations and adjustments in its health sector, as health workers under the aegis of The Joint Health Sector Union, took to the streets of Abuja to Protest, giving the Federal Government until midnight to meet their demands, else they embark on an indefinite strike.
The Union’s demands include: Payment of hazard allowance, end of discrimination in the health industry and an adjustment of the consolidated Health Salary Structure as was done with Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, CONMESS.
Meanwhile, members of the union have been seen with different placards in their hands with inscriptions that read: ‘We want adjustment of CONHESS as was done for CONMESS’, and, ‘FMoH should stop discrimination in health industry’.
Nigeria has been having it rough with the health sector, as more and more health workers keep moving outside the country for greener pastures, leading to most government-owned hospitals being short-staffed.
