Austin Jay Jay Okocha, ex-super-eagles legend, has expressed his joy over his nephew, Alex Iwobi’s improvement.
Alex Iwobi who moved from Arsenal to Everton in 2019, struggled to gain a position in Everton’s first team, as his potential were doubted. He saw several managers come and go out of the club, with him failing to gain any recognition.
Under Frank Lampard’s Coaching, Iwobi’s Career took a new form, as he helped boost Iwobi’s confidence and allowed him to play regularly.
His uncle, Jay Jay Okocha, is very pleased with the change in his Nephew, as he said that it’s quite pleasing to see him maximize his full potential, after struggling to settle down in Everton. Okocha also attributed Iwobi’s change to Lampard, as he praised Lampard for bringing a great coach that helps players improve and has helped Iwobi maximize his full potential in the club.
Okocha praised his nephew, as he described him as a very humble person, and said that no other player will display more loyalty to the club than Iwobi, considering how he played different positions. Whether he is comfortable or not, Iwobi will still carry out his duty well, and that is what every manager desires from his players, to give out their best at all times.
“It’s great to see him playing to his potential,” Okocha told Everton Live.
“We all knew that he’s got something special, but it’s taken him a little while to settle down and I also think playing under a great manager, who wants to improve his game and has been playing him in his right position has made a big difference.
“Alex is down to earth. You can’t expect a player to give any more than he does. Whether it’s going well for him or not, you can guarantee he’ll put sweat on his jersey, and that’s what you want from a player – to give 100 percent at any given time. That, for me, is the minimum requirement for a player and Alex gives that every time.
“I’ve always said to him that he can be too honest! But [playing in different positions] shows he is willing to sacrifice for the team, even if that affects his personal goals and performance.
“I’m glad to see him playing regularly in his natural position, where he can get on the ball and make things happen.
“I think Everton is enjoying the best of Alex now and we’re all delighted that he’s playing well.”
Alex Iwobi has scored one goal and bagged four assists in nine league appearances for Everton
