Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has recounted an emotional journey of personal transformation, revealing how she overcame decades of smoking, alcohol dependence and inner battles through what she described as a profound spiritual awakening.
The actress shared her testimony during a Sunday service at Streams of Joy International Church, during the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD) led by the church’s founder, Pastor Jerry Eze. A video of the moment was later shared on YouTube by DCLImagery.
According to Dikeh, she was introduced to smoking at the age of 13, a habit that continued for 27 years. Over time, she also struggled with alcohol use, deep anger issues and recurring spiritual experiences that affected her emotional well-being. She said her freedom from these struggles came through divine intervention.

Speaking before the congregation, the actress admitted that sharing such intimate details publicly was difficult, but she felt compelled to speak openly rather than protect a public image.
She traced a major turning point in her life to the Ghana Prayer Conference, where she said she experienced a spiritual release from long-standing oppression that had followed her since childhood. From that moment, she noticed a complete shift in her inner life.
Dikeh also reflected on her long battle with anger, describing it as destructive to her relationships and peace of mind. She said consistent prayers through NSPPD helped her find calm and emotional stability for the first time in her life.
Now 40, the actress said she no longer struggles with cravings for cigarettes or alcohol, explaining that the desire has completely disappeared. She described the change as lasting and total.
Using her experience as a lesson, Dikeh advised parents to be mindful of their habits, noting that children often unconsciously adopt behaviours they observe at home. She revealed that her own smoking habit began by watching her father smoke while growing up.
During the service, Pastor Jerry Eze prayed for her, declaring freedom from past bondage and describing her as a voice with influence in her generation.
After the service, Dikeh shared photos on Instagram, describing herself as a living testimony of mercy, restoration and divine commissioning.
In recent months, the actress has repeatedly spoken about her renewed Christian faith, stating that her current phase of life is defined by peace, healing and a deeper dedication to serving God.
