A human rights and education group called the Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) has called forth venom against the perpetrators behind the murder of Victoria Chintex, the Women Leader of the Kaura Local Government Area, Kaduna State chapter of the Labour Party.
Speaking in a statement signed by the group’s Executive Director, Dr. Ibrahim Zikirullahi they lambasted, in addition to the Party leader’s murder, the many killings and incidents of political violence that have festooned the days leading up to the 2023 general elections. He demanded that careful action be taken both to prevent other similar gender-based violence cases in Nigeria and end the state of election-fueled insecurity that has seized the nation of late.
He said that while organizations were of course working tirelessly to uplift women and raise awareness about domestic violence and similar issues, the government itself needed to step up and actively protect the rights and lives of these marginalized groups. Dr. Zikirullahi warned that the leader’s murder was only an example of the incoming wave of violence against women taking place and urged that relevant authorities step up to their responsibilities and curb this issue in the bud.
