In the pre-match conference for Barcelona’s draw against Cueta in the Cops del Rey,
Barcelona’s manager was asked about the future of Memphis Depay in Barcelona, Xavi replied that he is going to speak to Depay about it.
Reports have it that Depay wants to leave Barcelona and move to another club, and he has been linked with Athletico Madrid, probably due to the fact that Xavi rarely uses him for games.
During Ronald Koeman’s period as Barcelona coach, Depay was majorly used for all
matches, he scored 12 goals in 28 games in his first season in Barcelona, but since
Ronald Koeman was fired and replaced with Xavi, Depay has been sparingly used for
Matches.
Depay has featured in four games after 16 games played by Barcelona this season.
According to Xavi, he doesn’t have any news on Memphis yet, and he really sees him as a good player, but he’ll speak to Depay to know if he wants to leave the club or stay since he is playing less.
“I don’t have any news about Memphis,” Xavi said.
“He’s professional, and I’m delighted with him. He’s a good player for the locker room. In principle, I count on him for everything.
“Today I’ll talk to Memphis to find out what idea he has, whether he wants to leave or not.
“I know it’s not an easy situation for him because he’s playing less. But I don’t know if he wants to leave or not.
