A conflict erupted at Aces Nursery, Primary, and Secondary School in Abuja when a father, Muhammed Jimeta, attacked teacher Sekinat Adedeji for allegedly disciplining his daughter, Karima Jimeta. The altercation took place on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
Speaking to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, Sekinat Adedeji recounted the incident, stating that she was holding her three-month-old baby when Muhammed Jimeta assaulted her. Adedeji, who teaches Karima in Basic Three, detailed her experience of the attack.
She said, “It happened around 12:30 pm on May 29, 2024, when I used a rule on her leg when she and others were disturbing and were asked to kneel down.
“The pupil shockingly disrespected me by giving me a ‘wanka’, that was why I beat her on the leg with a small rule.” In Hausa, the term “uwarka,” which translates to “Your Mother,” is a derogatory expression. It is commonly used as an insult by extending one’s five fingers towards the person being addressed.
Adedeji recounted, “The father slapped me four times around 4 pm. School ends at 3 pm, and his daughter had informed him about the incident at 12:30 pm when he picked her up.”
“The child is not serious with her studies and insults teachers that come to the class”
Magdalene Ukuedojor, a parent who saw the incident, claimed the female student often insults everyone. She emphasized that the father had no right to physically attack a nursing mother and his child’s teacher.
“The teacher has a three-month-old baby. She carries her baby in a carrier. This man beat her up while she was carrying this baby in front of little children.”
