The Oba Elijah Olorunnisola, the Onikogosi of Ikogosi Ekiti in Ekiti-West Local Government Area, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 97. The Ekiti State Government expressed its sorrow and anguish over his passing.
The state’s governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, a native of the area, praised the late monarch’s 33-year rule from the Otutubiosun Royal Dynasty for being “peaceful and progressive.”
When Mrs. Monisade Afuye, the deputy governor, visited Onikogosi’s Palace in Ikogosi to deliver the state government’s condolence message, she stated that Oyebanji should have visited the palace since the official announcement of the monarch’s passing but was unable to do so because he was currently on official business outside of Ekiti state.
In a statement headed “EKSG mourns the death of Onikogosi, says the demise sad, painful,” written by his media assistant Victor Ogunje, Afuye expressed his condolences to Oyebanji and the other members of the Onikogosi-in-council for the passing of the monarch.
The monarch’s widow, Olori Funmilayo Olorunnisola, responded on behalf of the family and thanked the state government for its compassion and empathy for the family and town during this tough time.
