The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC), has convicted a staff of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Quadri Ismail Adeyinka, for committing travel passport fraud.
The ICPC had arraigned the convict before Jude Onwuegbuzie, a Justice at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Apo, in Abuja, on a four-count charge that included gratification, conferment of corrupt advantage and cheating contrary to extant provisions of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 and the Penal Code Act.
Dr Osuobeni Ekoi Akponimisingha, the counsel to ICPC had in the course of the trial, tabled evidence before the law court describing how Adeyinka swindled Ovie Justice Ojeffia under the pretence of regularising the Ojeffia’s international passport.
Adeyinka, had reportedly backed out on his agreement with the victim after receiving the sum of N100,000 from Ojeffia to regularise the passport.
This had led the victim to petition the ICPC, which led to the investigation and arraignment of the convict before the court.
In his judgement, Justice Onwuegbuzie found Adeyinka guilty on all four counts and sentenced him to seven years each for counts 1 and 2; five years for count 4; and two years for count 3.
The sentences are to be served simultaneously.
