The uproar in Kogi State continues as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) takes center stage, planning fresh elections in 59 polling units of Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area. Scheduled for November 18, 2023, this decision, unveiled by INEC’s National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, aims to untangle the electoral mess.
While results from 18 out of the 21 local government areas have been gathered, the suspense intensifies. The battle royale features SDP’s Murtala Ajaka and APC’s Usman Ododo, with heavyweight contenders like Leke Abejide and the ever-colorful Dino Melaye adding spice to the mix.
However, Kogi’s election tale is laced with suspense and controversy. INEC’s statement unveiled shocking incidents, including suspended voting and result discrepancies. The stage for chaos seemed set, particularly in Ogori/Magongo LGA, earning Kogi its reputation as the epicenter of electoral theatrics.
With suspended elections in various wards due to irregularities, including missing result sheets and the Marginal Lead Principle, INEC vows to rerun polls while hunting down those playing foul.
In the midst of this Kogi carnival, neighboring states Bayelsa and Imo had their own showdowns. Governor Hope Uzodimma emerged victorious in Imo State, leaving rivals trailing in a distant, politically-charged race. The political arena never ceases to amaze!
