The UEFA Champions League final is back on the menu for Inter Milan as they beat Barcelona 4-3 after extra time at the San Siro to progress 7-6 on aggregate. The astonishing second leg of the semi-final saw 13 goals scored, which astonishingly matches the record of goals scored in a two-legged UCL semi-final.
Inter started things off when they recovered from last week’s electrifying 3-3 tie. Federico Dimarco captured the ball from Dani Olmo and passed it on to Denzel Dumfries who fed Lautaro Martinez for the first goal. Close to the half-time mark, Hakan Çalhanoğlu converted the penalty to give Inter a two goal advantage after VAR had awarded a penalty to Cubarsí Pau.
Barcelona then decided to respond and did so with style. Olmo was able to provide the equalizing header after García volleyed home Martín’s cross and Raphael’s last minute goal seemed to have sealed the victory for the visitors until Francesco Acerbi gets the equalizer right after and force the match into extra time.
Davide Frattesi made it 4-3 after Inter discovered an additional gear and finished off a team lift. Inter managed to hang on to deliver a magnificent victory that reminds fans of their semi-final triumph over Barca back in 2010. They will now face either PSG or Arsenal in Munich while Barcalona are sadly left to ponder what went wrong during their hunted treble.
