Popular Yoruba actress Jaiye Kuti has stressed the importance of maintaining a youthful appearance and constantly evolving in order to stay relevant in the competitive world of entertainment.
Speaking in an interview with The Nation, the Nollywood veteran highlighted how much value the industry places on physical appearance and personality, which often leads many entertainers to fear aging.
“In the entertainment industry, you don’t want to get old because what you sell is your face and your personality,” she said.
Kuti also emphasized that beyond looks, entertainers must continue to develop their talents—especially those with natural gifts—by consistently refreshing and refining their craft. According to her, this ongoing process of self-renewal is a key form of rebranding that helps preserve one’s relevance despite advancing age.
Sharing her personal routine, the actress revealed how she stays active to maintain her appearance. While her neighborhood gym has been shut down, she makes up for it by walking daily.
“I go to the gym once in a while, but the gym in my area has been closed. However, I love walking, so I walk every day. When you do that regularly, it helps your skin and your nerves. And I take a lot of water,” she added.
Kuti’s reflections offer a glimpse into the discipline and lifestyle adjustments entertainers often adopt to meet the demands of a constantly evolving industry.
