The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, has called for an instantaneous shutdown of flights and power supply in Imo State.
This order is coming after an extraordinary National Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday, November 7, in Abuja.
In a communique issued after the meeting and co-signed by the TUC President, Festus Osifo; and NLC Deputy President, Adewale Adeyanju, the two unions had announced a total nationwide strike effective as from Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
The NLC/TUC NEC-in-Session was resolved as follows:
To order the immediate withdrawal of services and shutdown of Imo state starting from midnight today.
All workers and affiliates are expected to comply with the order from wherever they were.
Also, all flights into and out of Imo state, fuel supplies and Electricity will be discontinued immediately as applicable.
All Public and Private Sector workers were to henceforth, stop work indefinitely.
“If our demands are still unmet, workers all over the federation will join in the demonstration, withdrawing their services by Midnight on Tuesday, the 14th of November, 2023.”
“All State Councils of NLC & TUC and affiliates are by this resolution urged to ensure full compliance with NEC’s decision.”
Labour’s decree in Imo is coming a few days to the November 11, 2023 governorship poll in the state where the existing governor is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, looking to be re-elected.
