Ahead of Wednesday’s nationwide strike, the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have called for an extraordinary National Executive Council, NEC, meeting.
The organized labour will use the meeting to review the modalities of the planned strike after the attack on the National President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, as well as review the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Federal Government and the Organized Labour on October 2, 2023, following the fuel subsidy removal.
Tommy Etim, the TUC National Vice President revealed the summons on Tuesday, November 7.
The organized labour had on Friday, November 3, last week, issued a five-day ultimatum ahead of its planned protest against Ajaero’s arrest in Owerri, Imo State.
The labour centres had called for the redeployment of the commissioner of police in the state as well as the arrest and prosecution of the aide of the governor, purported to have committed the attack.
The unions had also threatened to commence on a nationwide strike if their demands were not met within five days.
Recall that Ajaero had been arrested by the police ahead of the state-wide protest in Imo on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
