The Supreme Court had just declined the call to release of the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, from detention.
The apex court, had in a judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, and written by Justice Garba Lawal, voided and set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which had in October 2022, called for for Nnamdi Kanu’s release and nullified the terrorism charges against him.

The Supreme Court had held that even though the Nigerian government recklessly and unlawfully nabbed Kanu from Kenya, such an illegal act had not deprived any court from proceeding with the trial.
Justice Lawal also said that no Nigerian law was quoted in the suit soliciting for Kanu’s release on mere illicit abduction from Kenya. He the. added that at the moment, the solution for such action was for Kanu to report a civil matter against such act instead of withdrawing the powers of courts to continue with his trial for purported criminal charges.
The apex court thereafter ordered that Kanu should go and shelter himself in the remaining 7 counts of terrorism charges made against him.
