Simon Lalong, the Governor of Plateau state, and Jonah Jang, the former Governor of the state, have expressed their sympathy over the death of 16 supporters of the
People’s Democratic Party who died from a fatal crash after their Zonal rally in Pankshin Local Government Area of the state.
The elated supporters who were 99 in number, were happily returning from the rally,
where the truck conveying them collided near the bridge at Manyem LGA of the state.
Governor Lalong mourned the death of 16 of the supporters, in a Statement released by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba. According to him, it is sad that the supporters who left the comfort of their homes to show their support for their party, sustained several injuries while some died, and the most painful thing about it is that those who died are young people, who still have a whole life ahead of them.
“It is disheartening that these supporters who went out to show love to their party
sustained various degrees of injury, while some paid the supreme price. This sad event is grievous as most of those involved are young people in their prime whose desire was to have a good and prosperous life in our dear state and nation.
The statement also contains Senator Jang’s condolence message, as he sent his
sympathy to the families of the affected.
“Senator Jang’s heart goes out to the families of those who lost their loved ones and
those of the injured. He joins in commiserating with them and praying that God will
comfort them and grant speedy recovery and healing to the injured.
He further thanked the families of those who have shown their support to the party in one way or the other.
“We express our thanks to the many who have stood with the families and the party at this time of grief and pray that the days ahead will bring succor to us all.
“May God continue to protect, keep and preserve us all.”
The Fire Service of the state revealed that the incident was caused by overloading and excessive speed. They also revealed that the rest of the victims are in the hospital where they are to be treated.
