I saw a discourse on Twitter sometime last week about ladies only choosing a particular type of colour for their toenails.
I am no statistician, but I can admit that the nail colour I’ve seen on most women for quite a while borders on the white and off-white colour and it got me thinking why ladies only go for a particular colour when getting their nails done and why that is so.
In Nigeria, where there is no lack of melanin-rich skin tones, nail colour options abound and there are tons of colours to choose from.
Research has shown that rainbow colors look amazing against a melanin-rich skin tone and this article is here to convince you of it.
Here are some interesting shades to try out on your next nail appointment:
Orange Hue:
This colour has never gone wrong for the dark-skinned girlies. It is for the bold and fearless babes. This colour gives off a ‘I’m in control and I know what I want” vibe. This nail polish shade is best used when you’re on vacation or during festivities as it can be a tad bit distracting in a work environment or school.
Teal:
The teal nail polish is the perfect colour balance between blue and green and is a gorgeous shade for your fingernails and toenails. This nail colour is perfect for all skin shades and works well for any occasion.
Baby Pink:
The colour pink has always signified romance and femininity. It is Barbie’s best colour and the shade is also used for newborn babies as well. If you’re feeling especially girly and want to spice up your look in a fun way, this colour is your best bet.
Chocolate Hue:
This hot chocolate-like hue nail colour can come in a variety of shades, and it especially highlights the melanin of your skin.
Lilac:
This colour gives off a soft, feminine vibe to me. This pastel shade is one of my favourites colours to wear for a wedding, picnic outing and girlish photoshoot.
Burgundy:
If you mix purple and dark red, this is the colour you’ll get. If there’s ever a colour that screams chic and sophisticated, this is it. If you’ve ever see this shade on a dark-skinned hand, then you’ll know that I’m not exaggerating. Best advice for this shade? Opt for a glossy finish.
Neutral Colours:
A.k.a earth tone shades, neutral colours are a minimalist girl’s best friend and works excellently on darker skin shades.
The neutral colours here could be brown, pink, tan or white.
When going for a neutral shade, pick a color that’s close to the colour of your nail bed, skin tone, or any colour in between.
The Classic Red:
You can never go wrong with a red nail polish, ever! and the best part? It works for all skin shades. This nail colour is an all-year rounder and works for all occasions.
Neon Yellow:
This is another shade that will drive you wild.
This another colour option for the bold and daring. This is the perfect colour to show off your wild side but there’s a catch, this shade will require a more careful selection of outfits with which to wear them from you but its totally worth it.
Did I also mention that it goes very well or dark complexion for any occasion.
Mint Green:
This is another pastel colour that is really great on darker skin shades. There are so many ways to incorporate this colour on your next nail appointment that would leave girlies fawning over your choice of colour.
